This Date In Providence Bruins History: January 14

1995: In a 3-0 Providence loss, the artist formerly known as the Maine Mariners draws a record overflow crowd of 7,317 to their old haunts at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Future P-Bruins goaltender Jim Carey lays down a 24-save shutout for the mighty Portland Pirates.

2000: While no players on the defending champions are selected to the All-Star Game, Peter Laviolette is tabbed to coach the PlanetUSA team. Meanwhile, on the ice, future Boston Bruin Glen Metropolit and future P-Bruin Kent Hulst are among the goal-getters in Portland’s 5-2 win at the Civic Center.

2005: Playing the franchise’s 1,000th regular-season game, the P-Bruins blank the visiting Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-0, on the strength of Brad Boyes’ two-goal night and Hannu Toivonen’s 26-save shutout. The win also extends the Baby Bs’ home unbeaten streak to seven games at 6-0-1.

2007: Peter Kalus scores while Jordan Sigalet stops all five of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, including old friend Peter Ferraro, for a shootout win at Harbor Yard.
